Yes, it really has been NINE MONTHS since I last blogged. And yes, that is a down-with-the-kids ‘z’ you can spot in the title of this blog post. It’s deliberate. Read on.
You see, back in the spring of this year I decided to do my first ever styled shoot. I needed a concept that I would be passionate about, and ended up taking inspiration from my local ‘hood, also known as suburbia. There are a couple of mini-roundabouts near me that, every May, take me right back to 2013. That was the year I got married, and that was the year I desperately hoped to have poppies in my bridal bouquet. I vividly remember seeing the first of the orange-red poppies sprouting from the cracks in the concrete and feeling ridiculously excited at what was to come.
There’s something in the air at that time of year. I feel it every May; the beginnings of a glorious summer, longer days, warmer temperatures, and the most beautiful colours. I wanted to recreate that in a styled shoot, and so the Hazy Summer Dayz (poppies + concrete) concept was borne.
And so to assemble my team! I spent a good month or two getting everyone in place, and spent most of that time feeling quite stressed. I wasn’t worried about contacting the suppliers I already knew, but it’s pretty terrifying approaching a supplier you haven’t worked with before, hoping they’ll like you and your concept enough to want to give you their skills or service for free (or at a cost for many), and anxiously opening emails through squinted eyes to get the Yay or Nay.
I’m pleased to say I got an incredible group of suppliers together, all of whose details you will find below, but I have to give a special mention to Jade and Ryan, my gorgeous models and real life engaged couple. Jade responded to a call-out I made on social media, and when she sent me a few photos through I remember doing a little happy dance around my living room. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful pair, and working with a couple who are actually in love as well…
So here you go, the fruits of our labour in all its technicolour glory. Complete with behind the scenes images- and video- of some of the wonderful creatives who helped me bring it all together.
We were pretty thrilled with ourselves.
